Hand care: 10 tips for beautiful and well-groomed hands

Apr 24, 2025

Want your hands to look as amazing as our professional models’? Here are our top do’s and don’ts for hand care:

Tip 1: Don’t wash with hot water

Wash with lukewarm water instead—hot water dries out your hands and nails, making them look less polished.

Tip 2: Use soap-free, pH-neutral products

Normal soap can be too harsh. Choose products that are soap-free and pH-neutral (around 5.5) to match your skin’s natural acidity.

Tip 3: Use a moisturizing hand cream

Even with careful washing, your hands can dry out. Hydration is essential for healthy, attractive skin and nails.

Tip 4: File, don’t clip

Use a gentle nail file (e.g., a glass file) to shape your nails instead of a clipper, which can cause damage.

Tip 5: Push back cuticles regularly

Healthy cuticles protect against bacteria and make your nails look longer. Push them back weekly, ideally after a shower or with cuticle oil.

Tip 6: Apply a base coat under polish

This prevents discoloration and helps your nail polish adhere better.

Tip 7: Give your nails a break

Let them breathe by going polish-free every so often.

Tip 8: Use acetone-free remover

Acetone dries out nails and skin. Opt for a gentler, acetone-free remover.

Tip 9: Be cautious with sharp tools

Avoid hand injuries by being extra careful with things like knives or cheese slicers.

Tip 10: Avoid breaking your nails

Use a spoon handle, not your nails, to open cans. Prevent breaks that can take weeks to heal.
